Welcome to the Jet Engine Management team.  We are a group of industry experienced individuals with over 80 years engine management experience across all sectors of engine management.  With backgrounds in numerous Airlines, Engine MRO's and Engine Consultancies we can leverage our historical expertise to assist in any engine management projects. 

Simon Mermod

Director

 

After gaining a BEng (Hons) in Aeronautical Engineering at Kingston University Simon joined a graduate placement scheme with British Airways followed by 6 years at Rolls-Royce as a Development Engineer on the Trent 800 Programme.  Positions as Powerplant Manager with both Gofly B and easyjet followed before founding Jet Engine Management in 2008 – an engineering company now employing 5 full time senior engineers working on Powerplant related projects with various airlines on all matters pertaining to Jet Engines.  Typical activities include Maintenance Contract negotiation; Technical documentation review; Failure investigation; lease negotiations; Shop visit forecasting; Financial forecasting for Engines; Shop visit management; Insurance claims and loss adjusting; Engine appraisals and valuations; Lease return management; Spare engine requirements and sourcing; SB and AD tracking and other aspects of Engine Fleet Management.

 

 

 

 

 

Ben Licquorice

Director

 

Ben is a Chartered Engineer with the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE). After gaining BEng (Hons) in Mechanical Engineering from Brunel University he joined Rolls-Royce in 1998. There he held a number of positions within the Controls and Development teams until 2009. These included roles with the responsibility for engine development testing, both in testbeds in Derby and flight testing in Toulouse. Ben was a recognised expert within Rolls-Royce and Airbus and was onboard for many of the Trent 900 flying testbed and early test flights of the A380 during the aircraft certification programme.

 

In 2009 Ben joined Jet Engine Management as a powerplant manager providing specialist services for the management of aircraft engines. Focusing on all areas of the engine life cycle from acquisition to lease return or asset sale. He has valuable experience with numerous customers particularly in the low cost Airline sector. Specialist areas include operating leases, due diligence, financial modelling/analysis, maintenance negotiation, shop visit planning and management. A dedicated professional with strong technical background. 

 

 

 

 

Gerd Ockerman

Program Manager

 

Gerd graduated in 1997 in Leuven, Belgium with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. His aviation career started in 1999 at European Air Transport as powerplant engineer for the DHL A300, B757 and B727 fleet.
At DHL his main occupation was to optimise the off-wing and on-wing maintenance programs and minimise cost of ownership for the CF6 engine fleet.  After 6 years, Gerd moved to Cardiff, Uk and joined TES as a Program Manager. At TES he mainly supported leasing companies with setting up engine related lease contracts and managing engine maintenance reserves and claims.
Shortly after starting at TES he was seconded to easyJet and moved to Luton. Gerd was Powerplant Manager for easyJet from early 2006 till end of 2008.
At easyJet Gerd finalised the CFM56-3 phase out, negotiated the CFM56-5B and CFM56-7B maintenance and spare engine agreements, set out the long term spare engine strategy and shop visit planning, initiated the CFM56-7B phase out whilst also managing the day-to-day off-wing related matters for the CFM56-5B and -7B fleets.
End 2008 Gerd left the Uk and joined SGI Aviation in Amsterdam as Program Manager.
At SGI Gerd was the focal point for all engine expertise and coaching of technical managers. He supported some major airline and lessor customers with end-of-lease management, reserve claims management, maintenance and purchase contract negotiations.
After 6 years at SGI Gerd joined Simon Mermod at Jet Engine Management and took over the Wizz Air account from Simon. Since early 2015 Gerd is supporting Wizz Air with managing the V2500-A5 fleet and also the contract negotiations and EIS of the PW1100G-JM GTF engine.

 

Dave Carr

Senior Engineer

 

Dave is a Chartered Engineer whose aviation career spans 40 years, the first half of which was in the Royal Air Force (RAF).  He started as an aircraft technical apprentice (airframes and engines) at RAF Halton and later went on to complete an aerospace / mechanical engineering degree at De Montfort University.  Much of his early career was spent "on the tools”, servicing and maintaining several aircraft / engine types, but predominantly the Harrier aircraft and engines.  The latter part of his RAF career was spent as the propulsion specialist on the Harrier aircraft engineering development and investigation team, working directly with suppliers, OEM's and support authorities on new equipment entry to service, supporting the operational squadrons and MRO’s with their maintenance and troubleshooting activities, authoring and vetting technical instructions and undertaking engine related project work, often in close collaboration with the US Marine Corps and Rolls-Royce military division.
After leaving the RAF in 2000 and before joining JEM in early 2017, Dave spent 8 years as an engineering consultant at Total Engine Support Ltd, managing engine fleet programs for airlines and Lessors such as TNT, British World Aviation, Astraeus and Tombo Aviation.  Deliverables included engine removal planning, financial forecasting and budget preparation; lease and entry to service technical reviews / contract negotiations; Engine Management Program definition; shop visit management; engine condition monitoring, fleet reliability program management and development of the management processes and systems required for the acquisition and maintenance of air operator’s certificates.  Dave has also conducted a multitude of engine technical inspections and asset appraisals completed several high level / strategic consultancy assignments for aero-engine operators and owners.  

Dave has also held the position of Operations Manager at TES Aviation Group, leading a 30 strong aero-engine maintenance, operations and logistics team across sites in the UK, Singapore and USA responsible and accountable for all maintenance activities undertaken by an EASA Part 145 maintenance facility and responsible for the storage, control and logistics associated with over £100 million of aviation engine piece part inventory, before moving on to become the Materials Business Manager, heading a multi-functional business unit with annual turnover up to £35 million, responsible for providing aero-engine materials provisioning solutions.

 

Rachel Ball

Office Manager / Head of Administration

 

Rachel Ball joined Jet Engine Management as Head of Administration and Office Manager in 2012.  Prior to joining Rachel has 20 years of experience in a similar roll working for Credit Suisse First Boston and Merrill Lynch International Private Clients in London.  A Fellow member of the Institute of Certified Bookkeepers since 2015.
